THE SYSTEMS THAT DISTORT US
Shane Nicholas

6 February to 6 March 2016
Community Access Gallery

Shane Nicholas’ exhibition The systems that distort us combines painting and sculptural techniques with the precision of macro photography. Nicholas seeks to highlight distortions that extend from the virtual world of the internet, running parallel and connecting to the material world.

Toys and mannequins are repurposed out of their usual context, using intentionally flawed and haphazard processes. This process causes errors that confuse the original imperfections with further mutations, making it difficult to distinguish between intention and error.

Nicholas makes comment that information collected through online browsing is increasingly being used to shape the environment that we live in, not just in the virtual world but also the material world that surrounds us.
