Bill Young

1949 – 2021

Much loved Morwell artist Bill Young has passed away.

Bill Young grew up in Adelaide and went on to study art at the South Australian School of Art, before coming to teach art in Gippsland in 1986.

As a painter his works were known for their high-keyed colour and expressionist styles. His best-known artwork in the Gallery collection is ‘Spirit of Morwell’ an artwork he was commissioned to paint by the former City of Morwell. The painting presents a sweeping vista of the Latrobe Valley including Loy Yang and Hazelwood Power stations.

Bill Young was and continued to be, a highly active and much-loved artist in the Latrobe Valley community right up to his passing.

Artworks by Bill Young will feature in the Gallery’s forthcoming 50th anniversary exhibition, 50 Years: 50 Artists.
