Pysanky is the ancient art of egg decorating in Ukraine. The name comes from the verb to write, as you use a stylus (called a kistka) to write with wax on the eggshell. The process is similar to batik. Traditionally the eggs are made before Easter, so they can be given to family and friends on Easter Sunday. The traditional designs are symbolic based on religion and nature.
In the workshop you will be shown the steps on how to create your own pysanky. All materials and equipment will be supplied. You will also be provided with a brochure that will contain some historical information and details about different types of designs.
